There were several Sanson at Abbeville:

  • Jacques Sanson (1596-1665), known as Father Ignace Joseph de Jesus-Maria, the first local historian who published in 1657 the genealogical history of the Counts of Ponthieu and the Maïeurs d'Abbeville.
  • Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667), his brother, the most renowned geographer of this first part of the XVIIth century. Professor of geography of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. He is at the head of a true dynasty of cartographers composed of his sons Nicolas, Guillaume and Adrien as well as his nephew Pierre Duval.
